About the Teacher

My name is Emily Matteson. I am a senior at The University of Texas, expected to graduate in May 2014. I will graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Applied Learning and Development and I will have my Early Childhood to Sixth Grade, ESL, Generalist Certification.
Last Spring 2013, I was a student intern at UT Elementary School in a kindergarten class. Growing up, I have always seen myself as a second grade teacher, mostly because that was my favorite grade in elementary school. But, after a few weeks in the classroom, I began to love working with younger children.
This semester, Fall 2013, I am a student intern in 2nd grade at Andrews Elementary in Austin ISD. I have really enjoyed being in an older classroom and seeing all the strategies for learning that my Cooperating Teacher has to offer.
I want to get a job in either Austin, Houston, or Dallas. After I have been in the classroom a few years and have found my best "area", I would like to go to graduate school to further my knowledge in this area.
I created this blog as a requirement for my math class at UT. But, since I have created it, I have decided to make in a general teaching blog, not just specific to math. I have really enjoyed figuring everything out and creating it. I plan to keep this up to date and will try to update it weekly with lessons I have taught or any ideas I find.
